Skylake〔https://software.intel.com/sites/default/files/managed/c5/9a/The-Compute-Architecture-of-Intel-Processor-Graphics-Gen9-v1d0.pdf〕〔http://www.intel.com/content/dam/www/public/us/en/documents/manuals/64-ia-32-architectures-optimization-manual.pdf〕 is the codename used by Intel for the 6th〔 generation Core processor microarchitecture which was launched in August 2015 as the successor to the Broadwell microarchitecture. Skylake is a microarchitecture redesign using an already existing process technology, serving as a "tock" in the Intel's "tick-tock" manufacturing and design model. According to Intel, the redesign brings greater CPU and GPU performance and reduced power consumption. Skylake uses the same 14 nm manufacturing process as Broadwell. An initial batch of Skylake CPUs (6600K and 6700K) was announced for immediate availability during the Gamescom on August 5, 2015,〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Intel to Debut its Core "Skylake" Processors at Gamescom 2015 )〕 unusually soon after Broadwell. While the industry observers initially believed that the issues impacting Broadwell would also affect Skylake, newer information suggests that Intel will be seeking to recover by maintaining the traditional "tick-tock" cadence for Skylake and shortening Broadwell's release cycle instead. Other CPUs based on this architecture will be released later in 2015. Intel states that Skylake is its "most significant processor" for a decade, due to the enhanced power efficiency and wire-free capabilities.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Dell plans laptops with Intel's Skylake chips in second half of year )〕 == Development history == Skylake's development was primarily undertaken by Intel Israel,〔(Intel in Israel: A Fab Relationship Faces Criticism ) Sep 29, 2014, KNOWLEDGE@WHARTON〕 centered at its engineering research center in Haifa, Israel, as with processors such as Banias, Dothan, Conroe, Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge. The team has been working on the project for four years, and faced many challenges: "But by re-writing the micro-architecture and developing new concepts such as the Speed Shift Technology, we created a processor for 4.5 W...45 W mobile devices, and up to 91 W for desktop devices."〔(Intel Introduced its 6th Generation Intel Core ) Published 2 September 2015, techtime.co.il〕 The Skylake processors will be used to power a wide range of devices, from smart phones, tablets, all the way to desktops.〔(Intel Is Putting Its Promising Skylake CPUs Inside Smartphones ) Sean Hollister, 9/02/15 7:50pm〕 "Because of Skylake's features, companies will be able to release laptop PCs that are half as thick and half as heavy as those from five years ago, according to Intel."〔(Intel's Skylake chips to power PCs as thin as tablets, with big battery boost ) September 2, 2015 12:31 AM PDT, Shara Tibken, cnet〕 抄文引用元・出典: フリー百科事典『 ウィキペディア(Wikipedia)』 ■ウィキペディアで「Skylake (microarchitecture)」の詳細全文を読む スポンサード リンク
